Genius director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next magnum opus Padmavati is one of the highly anticipated film of this year which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles and it is scheduled to hit screens on Dec 1st. The film has been in news ever since it was first announced.
But it took a drastic turn when Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted by Rajput Shri Karni Sena group during their Jaipur shoot schedule in January. Bhansali was attacked and the film’s sets were vandalised when the team was shooting in Jaigarh and Nahargarh Fort. Later, the costumes and posters of the film were burnt in Kolhapur. There have been protests against the movie by Rajput organizations and they have warned to oppose the film’s release if “Facts are distorted”.
The Rajput organizations are claiming that there is a dream sequence in the film between Rani Padmini and Sultan Alauddin Khilji and the makers have twisted the facts. And due to this controversy, the film distributors in Rajasthan are not keen to buy the film’s rights till the issue gets solved out. But finally Sanjay Leela Bhansali has broken his silence on this controversy and thrashed all the rumours in a newly released video surrounding the apparent romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji.
In the video, Bhansali can be seen saying, “I, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, wants to tell you all something through this video. I have made Padmavati with a lot of honesty, responsibility and hardwork. I have always been inspired by the great story of Rani Padmini and this film is just a tribute to her honour and courage. But because of some rumours, the film is being dragged into a controversy. The rumour is of Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji having a dream sequence. I have clarified it earlier and also given it in writing. And i am saying it again through this video that there is no scene between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji in the film which will hurt anyone’s sentiments. We have made this film with full responsibility and have kept the honour of Rajputs intact. So i am repeating it again that there is no such scene or any sort of dream sequence between the two characters which would hurt anyone. Thank you.” reports Bollywood Hungama.
In a recent Interview to Filmfare, Ranveer Singh, who is playing the role of Khilji, also said that, “ I have no scene with Deepika in the film at all. We haven’t even shot together in Padmavati for even a single day.” Let’s hope all these controversies come to an end after this video of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the film have a grand release as planned.
