With less than a month for the release of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s next movie Mersal, Madras High Court has halted it’s promotions and release. AR Film Factory has filed a title copyright case against Mersal and Madras High Court has also issued a stay order to makers for using the title ‘Mersal’ for promotional and other activities until the hearing of case which will take place on 3rd october.
Rajendran of AR Film Factory has filed an affidavit claiming that his company holds the rights of ‘Mersalayiten’ title and Thenandal Films have used the title ‘Mersal’ without proper registration. He also mentioned that Thenandal Films have registered the title as a trademark instead of registering it in the producer council.
Meanwhile Thenandal Films have pleaded that they have already spent a bomb price on the movie promotions as Mersal title and now they can’t change it. The court will give the final decision on october 3 whether the title can be used or not.
Mersal is directed by Atlee Kumar and features Vijay in three different roles. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menon are playing the female leads in this action-entertainer which is slated to hit screens on oct 18th.
