Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project Padmavat (earlier Padmavati) is probably the most controversial film in Bollywood till date. The film has been facing protests ever since it went on floors. Earlier it was slated to hit screens on December 1st but the release date was deferred as the protests took deadly turns. But finally after all the odds, the makers have locked the film’s release date. Yes, Padmavat will now release on January 25th 2018 to cash in the Republic Day weekend.
Popular Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to announce the new release date of Padmavat. He wrote, “#Padmavat to release on 25 Jan 2018… #RepublicDayWeekend”.

While Akshay Kumar‘s PadMan coming out on the same date i.e. January 25th, a big box-office clash is inevitable between Padmavat and Padman, as the makers of Padman have maintained that they will not shift the release of their film, come what may. This is not all, even Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaari with Siddharth Malhotra was also slated to release on January 26th but now it has been postponed to February 9th to avoid clash with two biggies.
Meanwhile, Shri Rajput Karni Sena, which spearheaded the agitation against Padmavat, is not pacified and is demanding a total ban on the film. They are claiming to vandalise theatres.
Padmavat stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari, Danny Denzongpa, Raza Murad and Jim Sarbh will also be seen playing other crucial roles in this epic period-saga.
